India to play Bayern Munich, match to be Baichung's Farewell Game

It was officially announced today that the Indian national team will take on German Bundesliga giants FC Bayern Munich at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on January 10, 2012; which will also be the farewell match for long-time India captain Baichung Bhutia.

The press conference was held today on the sidelines of the FC Bayern Youth Cup at the training ground of the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium premises. The press meet was attended by AIFF General Secretary Kushal Das, Bayern Munich's International Relations Martin Hägele, former India captain Baichung Bhutia, Audi India MD Michael Perschke and Adidas Brand Manager Tushar Gokuldas.

Also it was announced at the press conference that the proceeds from the match will go to Earthquake victims in Sikkim, but details of those plans will be disclosed at a later date.

Bayern Munich will make a detour on their way back to Munich from a mid-season training camp in the Qatari capital Doha to play the match in New Delhi; while India themselves have a friendly international against South Africa in Johannesburg on January 7, which means Team India does not have to assemble especially for the tie and the I-League fixtures have been amended to make room for the match.

Baichung meanwhile is happy to get an official farewell, while his biggest personal concern is physical fitness for the match; then he would like to be fit for such a fitting farewell.

More information will be disclosed in the coming days and weeks...
