The I-League now has its own Rooney! Former champions Salgaocar SC have filled their Asian quota by signing 23 year old Australian striker Sean Daniel Rooney from Indonesian side Deltras FC.
The Blacktown in New South Wales born Rooney started his career in the youth team of Sydney FC, before playing for the Newcastle Jets and his home town team Blacktown City Demons. He spend last season in Indonesia and joins the Goans after impressing in trials.
Salgaocar coach Karim Bencharifa told the Navhind Times, "Sean has been training with us for about a week; he has also played three friendly matches in which he scored in every match. He managed to impress me with his skills, technique and a deft scoring touch. I believe he is going to be a good prospect for us with his scoring ability upfront, something which we want to improve compared to our last season."
Sean Rooney, who has represented Australia at the youth level, comes to Salgaocar with a good goal scoring reputation and the club hope he will help them finish better then sixth last season.
