Samir Naik receives Goa's Dilip Sardesai award!

33 year old former Indian international wing-back Samir Subash Naik yesterday evening received the Dilip Sardesai award for Excellence in Sports at the Macquinez Palace, Entertainment Society of Goa in Panaji.

Samir Naik received on the occasion a cash award of Rs 200,000 (2 lakh), a bronze plaque of legendary India cricketer late Dilip Sardessai and an official certificate from Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar.

The award is a great honour for Samir Naik. He is the third footballer and Dempo SC player after team mates Mahesh Gawli and Climax Lawrence to receive the prestigious Goan state award from sports persons.

While addressing the gathering Samir said, "I am grateful to God, Goa's CM Parrikar, parents, family. I am indebted to my boss at Dempo, Mr Shrinivas V. Dempo, coach, team members and all my well wishers and friends. It was my hard work, dedication and love for football that helped me in achieving this excellence."

Samir's biggest strength was that he could play as wing-back on both sides - right and left with the ability to push forward and feed the attacking wingers and strikers.
