2012 Nehru Cup: Cameroon confirm participation!

African side Cameroon will be one of the highlights at the 2012 Nehru Cup to be played from August 22 to September 2 in New Delhi. The participation of Cameroon has been confirmed by Libero Sports India, which was mandated by the AIFF to secure the participation of the Cameroon national football team.

For Cameroon it would be their second participation in the Nehru Cup, who had last played in the tournament in 1993 in Chennai. Then Cameroon had topped Group B but then lost 0-4 to Romania B in the semifinals.

Cameroon which is ranked 59th in the latest FIFA world rankings would be the highest ranked team to have played in the Nehru Cup since the tournament's revival in 2007. The team would consist of home based players from the Cameroon domestic league as European-based players would be busy with league assignments.

The hope is with the participation of Cameroon that the African side would be one of the highlights in the 2012 edition of the Nehru Cup which is being held during the 75th anniversary year celebrations of the AIFF.

Having put to rest all the speculations around Cameroon's participation, Sukhvinder Singh, Managing Director of Libero Sports India, said, "We are glad that Libero Sports India through its partners in Africa have been able to contribute to taking the prestigious Nehru Cup 2012 to the next level by securing the participation of the Cameroon National Football team. We are sure that the football fans in India shall not only come and support the Indian National Football team but also relish the style of play of a high standard African football team which has made such a huge impact on world football."
