AIFF Disciplinary Committee suspends Okpara & Ashim Biswas

The Disciplinary Committee of the All India Football Federation met yesterday at Football House in Dwarka, New Delhi to discuss events surrounding the Mohun Bagan vs East Bengal derby on February 6.

East Bengal Club's British coach Trevor Morgan has been let off with a warning not to repeat such an act as he did in derby when he ran onto the pitch charging at Ashim Biswas for stamping on Mehtab Hussain. Morgan in his reply had excused himself for what he had done and he had earlier been banned from the sidelines of the East Bengal match in Kolhapur against ONGC.

East Bengal's Nigerian defender Uga Okpara has been suspended for two more matches and will have to pay a fine of Rs 20,000 for his post-match statements on television criticising the referee and speculating that his decisions were pro-Mohun Bagan due to a bribe.

Mohun Bagan midfielder Ashim Biswas has been let off with an additional one match suspension and a fine of Rs 10,000 for his stamping on Mehtab Hussain.

In addition both clubs have been fined for collecting too many cards in the game. Mohun Bagan will have to pay a fine of Rs 50,000 for collecting eight cards, while East Bengal will have to pay Rs 25,000 for receiving four cards.
