66th Santosh Trophy: Goa name 44 probables

The Goa Football Association has invited a total of 44 probables for the selection trials of the Goa state team for the 66th edition of the National Football Championship for the Santosh Trophy will be played from May 11 to 27 across Orissa.

Amongst the 44 selected players, 40 are from within the state while three players are from ONGC and last seasons hero for Bengal Branco Cradozo has also been called-up. The selected players are asked to report to the coaches Mathew D'Costa and Pascoal Pereira with their full playing kit for the selection trials at the Nehru Stadium in Fatorda on Thursday, April 19 at 7.30 a.m.

As per the AIFF regulations for the Santosh Trophy, players who are registered to play for I-League clubs cannot play in the Santosh Trophy. Those players have therefore not been called for the camp. However the GFA has requested the AIFF to amend this regulation to enable at least the Under-23 players who are registered with the I-League clubs but not key players of the I-League squads to play for Goa.

Goa have been drawn in the quarterfinal league Group B along with Manipur plus the winners of Cluster III and Cluster V playing their matches on May 19 (vs Cluster V), May 21 (vs Cluster III) and May 23 (vs Manipur).
