The world football governing body FIFA released the latest FIFA World Rankings earlier today in which India dropped seven places to be now 165th amongst the 208 ranked nations and territories, while within Asia India dropped four place into 32nd amongst 46 nations in the rankings.
Amongst the South Asian nations India are fourth behind Nepal (149th), Bangladesh (154th) and the Maldives (164th), but ahead of Afghanistan (168th), Sri Lanka (181st), Pakistan (182nd) and Bhutan (201st).
India is 165th behind the Maldives and ahead of Madagascar with 122 points, 10 points less then last month. India lost points due to India's terrible 2012 AFC Challenge Cup campaign in which India lost all three matches. The points are calculated over a four year period.
At the AFC Challenge Cup India lost to Tajikistan (0-2), the Philippines (0-2) and North Korea (0-4) which resulted in India not picking-up any points for the world rankings.
Meanwhile there has been a big shake-up amongst the top five of the FIFA World Rankings. World champions Spain (1,442 points) stay at the top with Germany (1,345) and Uruguay (1,309) moving-up a spot to be second and third while the Netherlands (1,207) dropped into fourth place and Portugal (1,190) who have moved-up two places into fifth spot.
