FIFA World Rankings: India rise to 144th

FIFA today released the latest FIFA world rankings and there is positive news for Indian football as India gained 69 points to take 151 points in the rankings to now be 144th amongst 208 ranked nations. Within Asia India ranked nine places to be now 24th amongst 46 nations in the rankings.

This means our roller coaster ride in the rankings continue. After being 138th in August and then crashing down to 160th last month, India is now 144th in October, up 16 places compared to last month.

The positive jump upwards was made possible due to the fact that over the last month India has played four international friendlies. The series of international friendlies included two wins against higher ranked teams in Namibia (2-0) and Vietnam (3-1) plus losses against Hongkong (0-1) and Yemen (3-6).

No more friendlies are planned for this month as the team has been given off for a couple of weeks. The team will regroup in November with the next friendly planned for November 14 against Kuwait, who are currently ranked 103rd.

In the global rankings world champions Spain remain top ahead of runners-up the Netherlands with Brazil now third swapping places with Germany who are now fourth, ahead of fifth placed Argentina.
