Goa FA Elections: A three way Presidential Contest?

The Goa Football Association will hold their elections for new office bearers on October 24. And the elections surrounding the post of president is becoming a really interesting contest with three candidates putting their names forward for the post. The three names are Srinivas Dempo, Savio Messias and Peter Vaz. If others will file their nominations is not known at the moment.

Srinivas Dempo, Dempo SC president and Dempo Group chairman, yesterday announced his intention to fill his nomination papers to become the new GFA president. He did that at a press conference with current GFA president Joaquim Alemao and Shivanand Salgaocar, the president of Salgaocar SC, also present on the occasion. It seems that the key club owners in Goa have decided to name a common candidate, who they think is fit enough to do the job and fulfil the task on hand.

The current GFA secretary Savio Messias is another candidate who will stand for election of president of the GFA. Savio as secretary has done an excellent job to structure the GFA plus organise leagues and tournament across Goa in a systematic matter. His work has led to Goa becoming a power house in Indian football.

The third candidate to throw his hat into the fray is Peter Vaz, the president of Sporting Clube de Goa. Mr. Vaz has taken Sporting Clube from nowhere to the top of Goan football and then also had his team in the NFL and I-League for a number of years. Only last season Sporting Clube got relegated, but Mr. Vaz is working with his officials and management to get the club back into the I-League.

The last date for filing applications is September 14, while the candidates have up to September 21 to pull their applications back. The applications will be scrutinized on September 14 and if need be on September 15.
