Solskjaer wins Molde FK first Norwegian title

Former Norwegian international striker Ole Gunnar Solskjaer knows since his Manchester United days how to win titles. Yesterday Solskjaer added the Norwegian league title to his name, but this time as head coach as he did with Molde what he couldn't as a player. His side Molde FK drew 2-2 Strömsgodset IF on Saturday, but the title was theirs on Sunday evening as closest rivals Rosenborg Trondheim suffered a 3-6 home defeat against Brann Bergen.

In their centenary year the 1911 founded Molde FK won their first-ever Norwegian Tippeligaen title with two rounds to play as the team is on 55 points with closest challengers Tromsö IL eight points adrift ahead of Rosenborg Trondheim and Brann Bergen.

Last season German Uwe Rösler saved the club from relegation before 38 year old Solskjaer made the move from coaching the Reserves at Manchester United to coach the first team at Molde, who no one really would have considered as title contenders at the start of the campaign. But Solskjaer showed his knowledge and skills as manager which will not have gone unnoticed in English football.

Some see Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as a potential heir to Sir Alex Ferguson once he retires and such an impressive title will surely make former fan favourite Solskjaer a candidate once that happens.
