Kolkata giants are giving the Durand Cup a skip to participate in an eight team international tournament in Vietnam as part of their preparations for the upcoming I-League and to give the side international exposure. The tournament, the Becamex IDC Cup, will be held in the Binh Duong province from October 6 to 15.
Besides home sides from Vietnam there will be teams taking part from Brazil, Slovakia and Uganda besides an Indian one in the form of East Bengal Club. In Group A Becamex Binh Duong (Vietnam), Vicem Hai Phong (Vietnam), Villa SC (Uganda) and MSK Zilina FC (Slovakia) will face each other; while in Group B East Bengal Club will take on SHB Da Nang (Vietnam), Sai Gon Xuan Thanh (Vietnam) and Matsubara (Brazil).
As per the fixtures East Bengal take on SHB Da Nang (Vietnam) on October 7, Sai Gon Xuan Thanh (Vietnam) on October 9 and Brazilian side Matsubara on October 11.
East Bengal have mainly retained their Federation Cup squad, but will be missing the services of influential midfielder Mehtab Hossain due to his groin injury picked up in the Fed Cup which he will try to heal until the start of the I-League on October 22.
