FIFA World Rankings: INDIA 164th, gain a spot

The world football governing body FIFA released the latest FIFA World Rankings earlier today in which India gained a spot to be now 164th amongst the 208 ranked nations and territories, while within Asia India gained a place to be 31st amongst 46 nations in the rankings.

India is jointly 164th in the rankings along with the Maldives behind Lesotho and ahead of Madagascar with 122 points, the same as last month. The gain of a spot was possible due to the Maldives dropping points in the rankings.

Amongst the South Asian nations India are joint third with the Maldives behind Nepal (149th) and Bangladesh (152nd), but ahead of Afghanistan (170th), Pakistan (181st), Sri Lanka (184th) and Bhutan (201st).

Team India has not official assignments or friendlies lined-up for the next few months. The next tournament could be the Nehru Cup, if held, in August/September 2012.

Meanwhile there has been no movement amongst the top five of the FIFA World Rankings. World champions Spain (1,442 points) stay at the top ahead of Germany (1,345), Uruguay (1,309), the Netherlands (1,207) and Portugal (1,190) who all remain on the same points as a month earlier.
