The 66th edition of the National Football Championship for the Santosh Trophy kicked-off today across Orissa in Cuttack, Bhubaneswar, Sambalpur and Baragarh. The tournament was inaugurated at the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack ahead of the Kerala vs Tripura match by Saswat Mishra, IAS (Commissioner-Cum-Secretary ) of the Department Of Sports & Y.S., Government of Odisha in the presence of Asirbad Behera, the Honorary Secretary of the OOA & OCA. Other dignitaries who were present at the inauguration were Bhakta Ballav Das, Ramesh Ch. Mallick, Dr. Jannardan Das (FAO Vice-President), M.A. Alam (FAO Treasurer), Rusinath Sahoo, Abhijit Paul, Sangeeta Sharma (Jt. Secretary) were also present.
The biggest win of the day was scored by Jharkhand, a 9-0 win against the Andaman & Nicobar Islands. The closest match was between neighbours Bihar and Uttar Pradesh in which the later won by a goal.
