German national team coach Joachim Löw today announced his final 23 player squad for the 2012 European Championships in Poland and the Ukraine. Germany plays Portugal, The Netherlands and Denmark in Group B of the tournament that runs from June 8 to July 1.A day earlier then expected coach Joachim Löw today announced his final 23 players with goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen (Borussia Mönchengladbach), midfielders Sven Bender (Borussia Dortmund) and Julian Draxler (FC Schalke 04) plus striker Cacau (VfB Stuttgart) not making the final squad.
Löw informed the four players and they did not take part in the afternoon training session. Only tomorrow Löw at a press conference will say why he made the decisions he has taken by sending this quartett home, but it is clear that Löw saw enough on Saturday in the friendly against Switzerland to make his decisions about the final squad.
While ter Stegen had a mixed debut and conceded five goals, Sven Bender didn't make it as the competition in defensive midfield is too big, teenager Julian Draxler is someone for the future while striker Cacau was seen surplus behind Miroslav Klose, Mario Gomez and Marco Reus.
