Airlines Gold Cup is back in Kolkata

The 23rd edition of the Airlines Gold Cup will be played from December 21 to 26 at the Mohammedan Sporting ground at the Kolkata Maidan. And it marks a return to Kolkata after having played the tournament across West Bengal over the last few years, if the tournament could be held at all. Then since the big two - East Bengal & Mohun Bagan - have not been playing the tournament due to the national commitments, it has hampered its existence.

This years Airlines Gold Cup is being organised by the All Airlines Recreation Club with help from the Indian Football Association (West Bengal). The Tower Group has come on board as the title sponsors and the six participating teams will be fighting for the tournament trophy and Rs 100,000 (1 lakh) in prize money.

While Mohammedan Sporting Club and 'Techno' Aryan Club have been seeded into the semifinals, the quarterfinals will see the IFA Academy, Janbazar SC, George Telegraph SC and Coal India in action.
