VIDEO: Bob Houghton receiving the Swedish football award

Robert Douglas Houghton, better known as Bob Houghton, had his first coaching success in Sweden with a small club called Malmö FF, which he coached from 1974 to 1979. The highlight was the 1979 European Cup (now called UEFA Champions League) final which the club lost 0-1 against Nottingham Forest and what made the achievement even bigger was the fact that this Malmö team was made-up of local boys, who came from within a radius of 60 kilometres.

Bob Houghton and his friend current FC Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson are widely regarded as being responsible for the 'transformation of Swedish football into a relative modern power'.

And for his achievements in Sweden, Bob Houghton in the summer had received the Lifetime Award of Swedish football after former UEFA president Lennart Johansson received the award last year and it was handed over to Bob by none other then Dutch football legend Johan Cryuff.
