The incredible run of Borussia Dortmund

The German Bundesliga currently has Borussia Dortmund at the top of the league table with 40 points from 15 matches to their name. And they have confirmed the unofficial title of Bundesliga winter champions, the league leaders at the half way stage, last weekend as they have a 10 point lead over second placed Mainz 05 with only two matches to go.

Under coach Juergen Klopp things have been going great for Borussia Dortmund this season. 13 wins out of 15 matches is a sensational track record in any of Europe's top leagues and since match day one when Dortmund had lost to Bayer 04 Leverkusen the club has remained unbeaten with only one draw since then.

Former Bundesliga champions Dortmund have been in rebuilding mode over the last few seasons and Klopp since joining the club in the summer of 2008 has had a positive impact of the clubs overall development. And this year it seems the club has made the big push to be top of the league after qualifying for the Europa league last season.

Klopp along with manager Michael Zorc has build a young, robust team over the last couple of years and Dortmund now are the team to beat in the Bundesliga. The team has the best young German talent in Mats Hummels, Marcel Schmelzer, Kevin Großkreutz and teenager Mario Götze; besides international talent in Lucas Barrios from Paraguay, Neven Subotić from Serbia, Nuri Şahin from Turkey and Shinji Kagawa from Japan besides the Polish internationals Jakub Błaszczykowski and Robert Lewandowski.

Especially Japanese midfielder Shinji Kagawa has been a sensation for Dortmund. The Japan international was signed for a small transfer fee of only 350,000 Euros from J-League side Cerezo Osaka. And Kagawa has played a stellar role in the Dortmund midfield so far, also being dangerous infront of goal having scored seven goals in his 15 starts.

To end on a lighter note, not all is running well for Dortmund. On the way back from Nuremberg on Sunday night their aircraft couldn't land at Dortmund airport as it was 29 seconds, yes seconds, to late and due to the no fly policy at night was in place, so the aircraft had to be diverted to Paderborn airport, which meant a slippery drive home in the wintery conditions.
