Bundesliga: Is there suddenly a title race?

It seemed over the last few months that the title winner of the 2010/11 German Bundesliga season had already been decided, it could only be the young and energetic Borussia Dortmund. But suddenly with only five matches to go until the end of the season we might have a late title race upon us.

Borussia Dortmund have currently 66 points and quietly western rivals Bayer 04 Leverkusen have closed the gap to five points as they now stand on 61 points. And the momentum seems to be with Bayer 04 who have won their last five Bundesliga games, while Dortmund have had a mixed track record of five wins, four draws and a loss over their last 10 games.

But Bayer 04 this weekend travel for a tricky encounter to Munich to face FC Bayern Munich, an opponent against whom they often have lost over the years and it makes it even more interesting with their coach Jupp Heynckes joining the Bavarians next season, but Heynckes has said that does have no influence on him as he is currently the Bayer 04 coach.

Borussia Dortmund meanwhile host SC Freiburg on Sunday and they will hope they continue their great home form, while Freiburg coach Robin Dutt might have on his mind that with an upset he could support Bayer 04 whom he'll be coaching next season.

But maybe after match day 30 all talk of a title race could all be over if Dortmund win at home, while Leverkusen lose in Munich. But the fans will be hoping to have a close finish until the end of this Bundesliga campaign.
