FIFA today released the latest FIFA world rankings and though India won their 2012 AFC Challenge Cup qualification group and gained 13 points, they lost a place in the latest rankings to be 146th amongst 206 ranked nations. Within Asia India are now ranked 26th amongst 46 nations in the rankings.
This means our roller coaster ride in the rankings continue. India now has 139 points, while are sandwiched between mini-states Singapore and Hongkong in the rankings.
India had some really good results last month by winning against Chinese Taipei (3-0) and Pakistan (3-1) before drawing against Turkmenistan (1-1) in the 2012 AFC Challenge Cup qualifiers in Kuala Lumpur, but other teams taking part in the Challenge Cup qualifiers gained more points and jumped past India as we only played opponents who at the time were behind us in the rankings.
In the global rankings world champions Spain remain top ahead of runners-up the Netherlands with Brazil now third swapping places with Germany and Argentina who are now fourth and fifth respectively.
