The world football governing body released the latest FIFA World Rankings earlier today in which India dropped six places to be now 153rd amongst the 208 ranked nations and territories. Within Asia India also dropped a place to be now ranked 27th amongst 46 nations in the rankings.
In the latest rankings India lost another two points to now have 135 points, while they are sandwiched amongst minnows Bahamas (152) and Hongkong (154) in the rankings. Sadly India's historic 2-1 win in Doha against Qatar has not been counted in the rankings as it was only a practice match and not a full 'A' international. In the match coach Armando Colaco made 10 substitutions which is not allowed in an official 'A' international, in which a maximum of six substitutions are allowed. The friendly match against Maldives which ended one-all did make it into the rankings, but friendlies are given the least priority in terms of points in the rankings.
The 0-3 away loss against the United Arab Emirates in the 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifier is already included in the rankings, but a positive result against the UAE in Delhi tomorrow could help our rankings next month.
There has been some change amongst the top five of the FIFA World Rankings. World champions Spain remain on top ahead of the Netherlands and Germany, but Brazil move into fourth place, up one spot, ahead of Uruguay who gained 13 spots due to their Copa America triumph on Sunday.
