The Assam Football Association Secretary Ankur Dutta today announced the 20 member squad of the host state. The 20 member squad for the upcoming 65th Santosh Trophy will be captained by striker seasoned Bulu Jigdung, while former Indian international Prasanta Banerjee has been named the state coach.
Assam go into the tournament with high expectations as hosts, but their preparations where far from smooth with especially problems with their goalkeepers as Gobinda Boro, Mintu Sonowal and Durlov Gogoi all reported injured, so seasoned Jitu Chetry (Oil India Limited) and Marcus Basumatary (Shillong Lajong FC) we late call-ups and then also made it into the squad.
The 65th edition of the Santosh Trophy will be held from May 6 to 30 across Assam in the seven cities of Guwahati, Nagaon, Mangaldoi, Tinsukia, Shivsagar, Kokrajhar and Bongalgaon. In this years edition Assam have been placed in Cluster 1 along with leightweights Pondicherry and Rajasthan in the preliminary stage, which will be played in Guwahati.
