I-League 2 - Round 3: Vasco on top!

The third Round of matches of the 2nd Division I-League 2010/11 were played on May 1/2 in Shillong. Vasco SC remain the lone team to have won all their matches so far, while on the other side of the table Southern Samity got their first point. The league is still wide open and anything looks possible, but it is advantage to Vasco who are followed by Shillong side Lajong and Ar-Hima.

Round 3 Match by Match Short Review
01-May-2011: Ar-Hima FC 2-0 (1-0) Mohammedan Sporting Club
Local side Ar-Hima FC took revenge for their first round 0-2 loss against Mohammedan Sporting Club by beating the Kolkata side by the same scoreline at home. Ar-Hima Fc now moved into third with now six points, while Mohammedan Sporting dropped to fifth as they remain on three points.
Ar-Hima was the better of the two sides on display and took a deserving lead through Zico Zoremsanga in the 26th minute. While Mohammedan Sporting was looking for the equaliser it was Timmy Ryngkhlem for Ar-Hima FC in the 55th minute who made it 2-0 for the Shillong side and it stayed this way until the end.

01-May-2011: Shillong Lajong FC 2-2 (1-0) United Sikkim FC
Shillong Lajong FC dropped their first points after United Sikkim FC scored a late injury time equaliser in a 2-2 draw. Shillong Lajong FC remain second in the table with now seven points, while United Sikkim moved to three points from their third draw in as many matches.
In an entertaining game of football Lajong looked the clear winners for most of the match, but United Sikkim brilliantly fought back to get another point. Lajong went ahead through James Giblee in the 15th minute and on the hour mark Saikhohao Tuboi made it 2-0 for the home side, but Beingaichho Beokhokhai would pull one back in the 69th minute for USFC and then their Liberian playmaker John D. Meyongar would equalise in the second minute of injury time to deny Lajong their third win in a row.

02-May-2011: Royal Wahingdoh FC 2-3 (1-2) Vasco SC
Vasco SC won a close contest against Royal Wahingdoh FC 3-2, the team against whom the Goans had lost 1-3 in the preliminary round. Vasco maintain their 100 percent record who are now on nine points, while Royal Wahingdoh FC remain on only one point.
It was an entertaining match with goal galore. The Goans went ahead through their African recruit Koko Sakibo in the 33rd minute, but the lead was short lived as Malswamtulunga would equalise for Royal Wahingdoh in the 39th minute, only for Vasco to regain the lead in the 42nd minute through a Jerose Oliveira goal. Just seconds into the second session Koko Sakibo would make it 3-1 and things looked good for the Goans, but Bijendra Rai would reduce the deficit in the 58th minute to make it 2-3. And it remained this way until the end.

02-May-2011: Southern Samity 1-1 (1-1) Sporting Clube de Goa
Kolkata's Southern Samity held their more fancied rivals Sporting Clube de Goa to a one-all draw. With this draw Southern Samity opened their point account, while Sporting Clube de Goa move to only two points and remain far away from the promotion spots.
Sporting Clube took an early second minute lead through their Portuguese striker Eldon Maquemba, but Southern Samity scored their first goal in the final round through their seasoned Brazilian striker Edmilson Marques Pardal in the 40th minute. It remained this way until the end which really doesn't help any of the two sides.
