With Dempo SC making it to the 2011 AFC Cup pre-quarterfinals the AIFF was forced to change the fixtures of some of the remaining matches of the I-League with Dempo still to play four matches in the last couple of weeks of the season.
But Indian clubs having contracts with players ending on May 31, the AIFF has decided to only have two matches on June 1 with Dempo SC hosting HAL, Bangalore and East Bengal Club facing Chirag United SC.
It seems the AIFF is hoping for the title race to be a two team affair between these two sides with no interference from current league leaders Salgaocar SC and Churchill Brothers SC. If not it will be interesting to see what happens and if there will be any protest from opponents in regard to favouring sides.
On the other side the AIFF will be happy that the AFC Cup pre-quarterfinals is a one-off match on May 24 and not a home-and-away affair which would have further jeopardised the season ending.
