Manchester United sign record Chevrolet shirt sponsorship deal

English Premier League giants Manchester United have signed a record-breaking shirt sponsorship deal with car maker Chevrolet, a brand of General Motors, which will kick-off in the 2014/15 season when Chevrolet replace current shirt sponsors Aon, an insurer.

The seven year deal is worth about 559 Million US-Dollars. In the first season Manchester United will receive US$70m and until the 2020/21 season there would be an annual increase of 2,1% in the sponsorship amount. Chevrolet only recently were signed as United's official new car partner to replace Audi and will pay the next couple of seasons US$18.6m as a premium sponsor.

The shirt sponsorship deal between Manchester United and Chevrolet is the biggest-ever in the history of world football dwarfing the 30 Million Euro deal between FC Barcelona and Qatar Foundation which was earlier the biggest such deal.

For GM brand Chevrolet the deal with Manchester United makes business sense then the car maker is working to grow further in Asia, South Africa and Europe. Especially in Asia and South Africa the Red Devils are a massive football brand.

After Sharp, Vodafone, AIG and Aon, Chevrolet will only be Manchester United's fifth shirt sponsor in the club's history.
