Brasil Futebol Academia to organise Joga Bonito camp & league in Goa

The Goa-based Brasil Futebol Academia (BFA) will organise its 3rd Joga Bonito camp-and-league in April and May at Seraulim, Colva and Taleigao ground from 4 to 6pm.

Brasil Futebol Academia (BFA) is the 'brain-child' of Roberto Mendes Silva and his friend Jose Ramires Barreto, both professional footballers in India who wanted to give something back to the 'Beautiful Game' and came up with an idea of setting up a football academy in Goa. They both worked really hard to make this dream a reality. Roberto Mendes Silva (Beto) and Jose Ramirez Barreto joined hands to give the kids of Goa and other states an opportunity to learn football in India the Brazilian way.

The coaching programme has been designed by the BFA's ex-technical director Juliano Fontana and will be conducted by head coach Rodrigo Mendes Silva along with the BFA's technical staff.

The fundamentals of football, sensational samba moves, along with dribbling and juggling sequences will be taught in the first month. Children will be split into divisions depending on their age, grade and experience. There will be a high ratio of coaches to participants to ensure the children are supervised in a fun and educational environment. The camp will teach the individual fundamentals of football and then combine those skills into team drills.

In the second month, participants will be divided into teams and a competitive league will start creating an enjoyable and fun environment. The camp is open for kids between 6 and 16 years of age.

Goa-based Brasil Futebol Academia players join Pro clubs!

The Goa-based Brasil Futebol Academia (BFA) will be seeing seven of their players playing professional football this season. The BFA's aim is to develop local talent through Brazilian ways of coaching.

The following seven players have joined professional clubs this year: Alesh Sawant (on loan to Churchill Brothers SC), Faisal Shaikh, Bitu Singh, Jyotesh Palkar, Rajat Chopdekar (all Vasco Sports Club) and Parshuram, Prakash Khatri (both Goa Velha SC). Last season Rahul Kandulkar, Milind Shinde and Rohan Sagar Kamble had joined Vasco SC last season and have been retained by the club.

All of these former Brasil Futebol Academia players are expected to feature pretty heavily for their new clubs in the Goa Professional League this season.

"Playing all over Goa and learning from professional coaches and players along the way has been amazing," said Alesh Sawant, who is currently on loan to Churchill Brothers. He also thanked the BFA head coach Rodrigo Mendes Silva and other coaches for their support in honing his talent.

"The high standard of coaching and great playing opportunities at BFA was fundamental in enabling me to develop as a player and secure a professional contract," said new Vasco SC player Bitu Singh.

"We're delighted that our players will have the opportunity to play for professional clubs at such a young age. It will mean that they are playing at a higher level than and competing against professional teams. It's providing a chance for players to play at an elite level and progress on to a professional playing career," the Brasil Futebol Academia said in a release.

The 2012/2013 season will see a fresh intake of hungry young players joining the Brasil Futebol Academia for a chance to go pro. This season ten new players will join the 20 existing boys to form the nucleus of the Academy's Under-18 and Under-16 squads.

Brasil Futebol Academia starts its Futsal program in Margao tomorrow

The Goa-based Brasil Futebol Academia (BFA) will start their program 'Futebol de Salao' (Futsal program) tomorrow in Margao at the Chowgule Sports and Fitness Centre's Futsal Court 'Tigers Ghol'. The program is intended for children between the age of six to 14 and it will be held every Monday and Wednesday from 16.00 to 18.00 IST.

The Futsal program has been put together by the Brasil Futebol Academia's new Technical Director Juliano Fontana and he will be assisted in coaching the kids by BFA head coach Rodrigo Mendes Silva, who happens to be the brother of Churchill Brothers' star Roberto Mendes Silva (better known as Beto) and it was Beto along with Jose Ramirez Barreto who had started the BFA a few years back.

The children will be divided into different groups depending on their age, grade and experience. As participants the children will receive an official BFA jersey, shorts and stockings.

BFA/Vasco SC Youth Selection Trials

The Brasil Futebol Academia and Vasco Sports Club will have its football selection trials for their Under-14, Under-16 and Under-18 youth teams which participate in the Goa Football Association, national and international tournaments on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday - June 6 to 8 respectively from 8 am to 10 am at the Chowgule Grounds in Margao, Goa.

Interested players are requested to carry their kits and report on the ground by 8 am on the above mentioned dates. AFC 'B' License holder/AFC Project Future coach Derryl D'Souza, Seby Rodrigues, Kannan Priolkar and Rafik Bepari will be present and scout the players.

This is a golden opportunity for young players to win a place in the Brasil Futebol Academy in Goa. Players selected will complete a pro-level football training program run by BFA and supported by Vasco SC and represent them in age group tournaments against top clubs from the state and within India. Players will be trained and allowed to use the state of the art facilities at the Chowgule Sports and Fitness Centre which includes a multi-gym, physiotherapy centre and an artificial turf ground. Besides that the players will be provided with nutritious food by the academy.

The selected boys will receive the best professional coaching from the BFA's full time team of experienced Brazilian and AFC qualified coaches. BFA also has a permanent strength and conditioning trainer and the entire coaching program has been designed by Glauco Moraes, an Ex-Gremio Youth Development Manager, who has worked with players like Ronaldinho, Lucas and Anderson.

The Brasil Futebol Academia, founded by Roberto Mendes Silva and Jose Ramirez Barreto, aims to identify and recruit young talent through the Academy's extensive scouting network. BFA have helped hundreds of young players since its inception in 2009 at amateur and professional level. BFA hopes that young players who aspire to become professional footballers will attend the trials and give them an opportunity to scout boys with outstanding potential. The Academy firmly believes that through the systematic process of consistent fitness testing and the incorporation of sports science within a football specific environment will offer an all round development.

The Goa-based Brasil Futebol Academia (BFA) will start its two-month soccer summer camp-cum-league later this month at the Chowgule Sports & Fitness Centre in Margao and the Taleigao grounds. The camps will be held in the evening from 4 to 6 pm.

This years summer camp coaching program has been put together by Glauco Moraes, who has worked with Brazilian stars Ronaldinho Gaúcho, Lucas (Liverpool) and Anderson (Manchester United). In the second month all the participants will be divided into teams and a competitive league will start creating an enjoyable and fun environment. There will be individual prizes, giveaways and an opportunity to train with the BFA youth teams. There will be some guest appearances by I-League players throughout the camps.

Rafael Von Muhlen coach-manager and Academy head coach Rodrigo Mendes Silva will conduct the summer camp-cum-league. Nigerian Adakole Jonathan, an English FA level certified coach along with AFC 'B' Licence coach Derryl D'Silva will also be present. There will always be a fully stocked first aid kit to treat any minor injuries sustained during the sessions.

During every session the coach present will always carry the following: first aid kit, emergency contact list, extra water, mobile phone risk assessment for the facility, throughout the session each child will be under constant supervision.

Children from the Under-6 to U-14 age groups are welcome, but places are limited. Each student will get an official BFA jersey and shorts. Registrations will be done at Chowgule Sports and Fitness Centre, Borda-Margao and Brasil Futebol Academia Office in Agasaim. Camp registrations will close on April 8.

2nd U-20 Sesa Cup: Dempo Juniors champions!

The Under-20 boys team of Dempo SC are champions of the second edition of the Sesa Cup after beating the Sporting Clube de Goa Juniors 6-1 at the SFA grounds in Sirsaim this afternoon. It was sweet revenge for Dempo's who had lost against SCG Juniors in the Goa Taca Under-20 tournament finals on penalties only a few days ago...

Dempo Juniors have been convincing throughout the tournament. After beating the hosts Sesa Football Academy in the opener, they won 4-2 against Churchill Brothers SC before another 6-1 drubbing this time against Sporting Clube de Goa.

The second edition of the Under-20 Sesa Cup was played from March 24 to April 1 in Goa. The eight under-20 teams that took part were the hosts Sesa Football Academy, Dempo SC, Salgaocar SC, Churchill Brothers SC, Sporting Clube de Goa, St Cruz Club Cavelossim, Curtorim Gymkhana and the Goa-based Brasil Futebol Academia.

Sesa Cup: Under-20 Tournament in Goa

Sesa Goa Group, owned by Vedanta, will organise the second edition of the Under-20 Sesa Cup from March 24 to April 1. The tournament has not been held for nearly a decade, but the Sesa Group think that such a tournament could be a platform for talented youngsters to show their skills and capabilities as footballers to maybe become professionals.

The eight teams taking part are the hosts Sesa Football Academy, Dempo SC, Salgaocar SC, Churchill Brothers SC, Sporting Clube de Goa, Cavelossim SC, Curtorim Gymkhana and the Goa-based Brasil Futebol Academia.

The opening match will see Sporting Clube de Goa taking on Cavelossim SC at the SFA ground in Sirsaim at 16.00 IST on Saturday, March 24. The quarterfinals will be played from March 24 to 27, the semifinals are slated for March 29 and 30 while the finals would be played on Sunday, April 1.

There is also prize money to be won by the under-20 teams. The champions would received Rs 75,000, the runners-up Rs 50,00 while there would be individual prizes and 'man of the Match' awards.

Brasil Futebol Academia to launch Football School in Goa

Brazilian footballers in India Roberto Mendes Silva (Beto) and Jose Ramirez Barreto are taking a step further to develop football in India by starting a Football School to unearth young gems between the age group of 6-12 which will function along with the Brasil Futebol Academia and will be headed by the Brazilian management whose objective is to align the Brazilian style of play from childhood.

The school will be headed by BFA Academy Manager Glauco Moraes who has enormous amount of knowledge and experience in football, also having worked with some of Brazil's footballing greats who are now internationally acclaimed stars namely Lucas Leiva of FC Liverpool, Anderson of Manchester United and Ronaldinho Gaucho at Gremio FC.

The aim of the school is to make football more beautiful, more entertaining thereby encouraging young players to imitate and align the flamboyant Brazilian style. The school will be offering youngsters of all abilities, the opportunity to improve their game and to play football in the Brazilian way and will be groomed to perfection in such a way that they will be directly absorbed into the Academy.

Football isn't just about techniques and skills; it's about enjoyment, fitness and social skills. The players here will enjoy the beautiful game, have fun and also make friends.

Youngsters will be divided into three categories of different age groups with different training module

- 6 to 8 - Basic training
- 9 to 10 - Developmental stage
- 11 to 12 - Advanced training


A strong emphasis will be placed on developing the technical skills of every child. Skills from basic to complex will be broken down into easily learnable phases for children and then these moves will be taught and repeated many times in small games.

"We believe that children do not spend enough time training. They may spend a lot of time playing matches, but generally children do not spend enough time working on their skills. As a result BFA Football School plans to change the way that football is played thereby changing the way that we train children to play the game. However this cannot happen without children spending increased time practicing their skills," a BFA release said.

The sessions will last for two-hours and will be entirely devoted to training core skills. The school which will operate on a fee basis and will open on Monday, January 2 at the Chowgule Sports and Fitness Centre in Margao. The BFA Football School will train on the Chowgule artificial football pitch on Mondays and Wednesdays from 4-6 pm.

From six years and upwards, boys or girls can come along and enjoy playing the game.

The Brasil Futebol Academia in Goa

The Brasil Futebol Academia in Goa is the brainchild of Roberto Mendes Silva, better known as Beto in Indian football circles. The Brazilian who started his Indian career in Kolkata with Mohun Bagan before moving to Dempo SC in Goa is now making the switch to Churchill Brothers SC this summer. But Beto already has created his own legacy in India along with friend and fellow Brazilian football Jose Ramirez Barreto.

The duo in 2009 set-up the Brasil Futebol Academia (BFA) in Goa to give the children the opportunity to learn football in India the Brazilian way. The BFA is run by trained Brazilian coaches at the Chowgule Sports & Fitness Centre/Agassaim grounds and works with talented kids from the neighbourhood. As a way of giving back to Indian football, the Academy provides all of its services free of cost. The BFA has become one of Goa's best talent factories.

With the launch young Goans and coaches were introduced to Futebol de Salão, a smaller, heavier ball that is used in Brazil, along with a radically different approach to teaching football. With the local coaches' drive and enthusiasm and the Brazilian's knowledge and experience of South American coaching techniques, the first Brazilian Academy was born in Goa. Now, a couple of years on, Beto has a lot of children enrolled in his soccer academy.

Basic football skills are practiced by the children and good sporting behaviour is actively encouraged on and off the pitch. Qualities such as teamwork, motivation, leadership, discipline and friendship lie at the heart of playing soccer at BFA. The project BFA - Brasil Futebol Academia, has been created having in mind the social aspect, well-being, development of children and adolescents believing that in the fight against social marginality and war against drug addiction, the sports activities will always be excellent allies. The BFA will have as an objective of teaching the basic principles of football to all athletes lying in the age group from eight to 16 years, by helping them in the process of integration as citizens and transforming them into professionals in the field of sports. Besides looking after the formation of future athletes, the BFA will provide the students learning at BFA, a more dignified and healthy life. BFA courses have been structured to appeal to young athletes of all abilities. The central aim of BFA training program is to encourage children to spend longer time working with the ball practising and developing their skills.

BFA believes that children in India do not spend enough time training and working on their skills. Keeping this in mind, it has custom designed a syllabus for children in the age group of 5 to 18.

Repetition of skills such as passing the ball in a straight line and juggling are stressed throughout the program. Every player who comes to the academy is closely monitored by the coaches. Every week players are given points based on the performances in soccer skills youth soccer training, fun soccer drills, passing, shooting, position, attacking and defending, dribbling and crossing agility, ball control, soccer drills, soccer tips, new soccer techniques and Samba Magic (Tricks, Flicks and Step-overs).

A player that earns the maximum number of points in a particular month is judged the player of the month and is featured on the BFA Website. As a way of rewarding those that have shown the most improvement or have developed their skills to a high level, Brasil Futebol Academia has a selection of skills competitions. The overall winner of each competition receives a medal and gifts in recognition of their achievement.
