Delhi Senior Division: Garhwal Heroes new Delhi champions!

Garhwal Heroes are the new Delhi Senior Division champions, their second-ever Delhi league title, after a 1-0 victory against Goodwill FC in the finals at the Ambedkar Stadium today.

The Super League of the Delhi Senior Division was played from Sunday, February 24 onwards until the final today with the league having been postponed in-between due to controversies regarding Garhwal Heroes and their win against Shahdara Club.

The leagues individual prizes were won by Baljinder Singh (Goalkeeper, Veterans FC); Yogesh Prasad (Defender, Garhwal Heroes); Rajesh Meitei (Midfielder, Goodwill FC); and Shashank Mamgian (Striker, Delhi United); while Bhupendra Rawat (Goodwill FC) was named as best coach.

The Most Disciplined Team award went to Ahbab FC, who received the Dharamvira Fair Play trophy instituted by Mughals SC.

Delhi Senior Division - Super League to kcik-off from Sunday

The Super League of the Delhi Senior Division will be played from Sunday, February 24 to Saturday, March 2 with the semifinals slated for March 4 and the final on Wednesday, March 6.

In Group A, former champions Hindustan FC face Indian Air Force (New Delhi), Goodwill Club and Veterans SC; while in Group B defending champions Delhi United take on Garhwal Heroes, Tarun Sangha and Shahdara Club.

The top two teams from each group of four will reach the semifinals with the winners of these playing the final of the Delhi Senior Division.

67th Santosh Trophy: Delhi name 33 probables

The Delhi Soccer Association has announced 33 probables for the 67th edition of the National Football Championship for the Santosh Trophy which is being played from February 1 to March 3 in Kerala and Uttar Pradesh.

The selection-cum-training camp would be held from Friday, February 1 onwards at the DDA Netaji Subhash Sports Complex, Jasola with the players asked to report to coach Surinder Kumar at 10.00 IST.

The players have been chosen by a DSA selection committee from matches of the Delhi Senior Division.

Delhi have been drawn in Group A of the preliminary round to be played in Kochi having to face Indian Railways on February 15 and record champions Bengal on February 17.

Delhi's Hindustan FC want to put the capital on the map

The defending champions of the Delhi Senior Division Hindustan FC made a successful start to their local league campaign with a 2-0 win against Indian National FC yesterday.

The team from the capital goes into the season with an aim to win a third Delhi Senior Division title in a row after winning the title in 2009 and 2010 to complete a rare hattrick as Team Manager and Media Coordinator Animesh Biswas told me.

For this mission 42 year old Nigerian Tope Ayodeji Fuja has been named coach of Hindustan FC, who last season coached famed Kolkata side Mohammedan Sporting Club. Tope holds a Pro-Coaching License from the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) and an International Certificate from the Football Association of England. Tope Fuja is being assisted by Sandip Dhole, who holds an AFC 'C' Coaching Licence degree and a Football Coaching Licence from the National Institute of Sports.

The 1948 founded Hindustan FC are three time Delhi League champions (2001, 2009, 2010) and four times runners-up (1996, 1998, 2000, 2002) to change an earlier perception over the last decade of being unable to win the local league. The club has played in the second Division of the National Football League/I-League five times and is working to professionalize their set-up to be able to play in the 2nd Division again this season.

The club has established a a football academy under the Hindustan Football Academy name and the Academy also organises an annual inter-school tournament, the Hind Kishore School Tournament, in Delhi/National Capital Region.

Hindustan FC have been able to rope in Jagatjit Industries as their title sponsor for the 2011/12 season and the club will use the Jagatjit Industries' brand Aristocrat Premium PC in the local league and other tournaments, while SAIL and ONGC will continue to support the club as associate sponsors with further support coming from PHI Learning and Shehnai (mouth freshener) as kit sponsors this season. Cosco remains as official ball supplier.

Delhi Senior Division to kick-off July 30

The Delhi Soccer Association organised local league will see 14 teams fighting it out to win the trophy of the 'DLF - Delhi Soccer Association Annual Preliminary League Football Championship' to kick-off on July 30 at the Netaji Subhash Sports Complex in Jasola, New Delhi. From August 3 onwards league matches would also be played at the Thayraj Sports Complex and the Ambedkar Stadium.

The DSA in its meeting on July 15 presided by president Subhash Chopra constituted a League Sub-Committee under chairman N.K. Bhatia (Convenor), Syed Shaheen, Liquat Ali, Benny Joseph (all Co-Convenors); Hafiz Shahid Bholanath Karmakar, Bachi Ram (all members) to ensure smooth and successful conduct of the league.

14 teams have been split into two groups of seven teams each. The top four qualify for a round robin league to be played in two groups of four teams each. The top two teams will qualify for the semifinals and the highlight of this years league is the fact that the semifinals and final will be played under floodlights at the Ambedkar Stadium, while the bottom placed team in each preliminary group is relegated.

The groups of the participating teams was carried out by a draw of lots in the meeting held yesterday at the DSA office which was attended by all club secretaries. In Group A Delhi United FC (formerly Gorkha Heroes), Tarun Sangha, New Delhi Heroes, Youngmen SC, Royal Rangers FC, Shastri Club and Indian Air Force (New Delhi) would face each other; while in Group B Hindustan FC, Ahbab FC, Indian National FC, Garhwal Heroes, Simla Youngs FC, Shahdara FC and Veterans FC have been clubbed together.
