Mehraj & Ishfaq to spearhead J&K XI in ties vs Md Sporting

Jammu&Kashmir rarely in recent years has seen their best footballers - Mehrajuddin Wadoo and Ishfaq Ahmed - in action. In the coming days they will get the chance to do that twice as the duo will be in action for a Jammu&Kashmir XI against Kolkata giants Mohammedan Sporting Club on July 15 and 17.

For the football fans in Srinagar and Baramulla it will be a chance to catch some quality football, while the beautiful game is also spread across the Valley.

The series of matches is an initiative to promote football in the Valley and it has come from a surprising quarter, the central government. Initially the so-called 'National Club of India' Mohun Bagan AC were asked to travel to Kashmir, but after they declined as the matches didn't fit into their pre-season plans Mohammedan Sporting was asked and they readily agreed to travel as they thought these matches would be ideal for their preparations.

The Jammu&Kashmir Football Association has named 23 players in an initial list and will cut it down to 20 which will then play Mohammedan Sporting Club, who also have their fans in Jammu&Kashmir who will get a rare glimpse of the Kolkata giants.

AFC hands out four match suspension against Ishfaq Ahmed

The disciplinary committee of the Asian Football Confederation met earlier this week and imposed fines and suspensions following recent violations of regulations in the AFC Champions League and AFC Cup. One of those cases was that of Salgaocar SC winger Ishfaq Ahmed, who had been send-off in the clubs sixth and final group stage match againest Neftchi FC in Uzbekistan on May 8.

Ishfaq Ahmed has been given a four match suspension for verbally abusing the Yemeni referee Al-Yarimi Muokhtar Saleh Ali, which the referee reported to the match commissioner. Ishfaq will carry the suspension with him to his new club East Bengal, if they play Asian competition next year as it is a personal fine and not one imposed on the club.

This is what the AFC said in the judgement on Ishfaq Ahmed
1. Pursuant to Article 49 par. 1 a) of the AFC Disciplinary Code (the Code), the player, Ishfaq Ahmed (AFC/7503/IND) is suspended for four matches for a violation of Article 69 par. a) of the AFC Cup Regulations 2012 and Article 57 of the Code.

2. The four match suspension includes the one match automatic suspension arising from the said match on 8.5.2012.

3. The match suspensions are to be carried over in accordance with Article 38 par. 2 c) of the Code.

4. The player, Ishfaq Ahmed (AFC/7503/IND) is given a warning that a repeat violation of these provisions will be met with more severe punishment.

Mohun Bagan name 2010/11 squad

Today Mohun Bagan Athletic Club at their club tent on the Kolkata Maidan announced their squad for the 2010/11 season. And the big surprise announcement was that Stanley Rozario would be their new chief coach for the upcoming season, while in the absence of some of the senior players the clubs new captain would be Ishfaq Ahmed.

Stanley comes back to Kolkata from Shillong Lajong FC, whom he couldn't keep in the I-League, while he was earlier the coach of archrivals East Bengal Club.

The Green-and-Maroon have decided to only sign two India players for now, as the international players will be busy with Team India engagements until January 2011. The two players signed are Surkumar Singh and Rakesh Masih, while others like Deepak Kumar Mondal, N.S. Manju and James Lukram Singh have not been signed for the moment.

The club has signed five players from city rivals Chirag United SC, while also signing Mahindra United striker Subair Muritala Ali, who along with Jose Ramirez Barreto and Chidi Edeh could create a deadly combination upfront. With only three foreigners allowed seasoned Brazilian midfielder Marcos Alexandro de Carvalho Pereira has been released, while the club is looking to sign an Asian foreigner for the teams defence.

A number of talented youngsters have been picked-up from smaller Kolkata sides, while also taking in some in house talents from the Mohun Bagan Under-19 team besides Satish Kumar Jr from HAL and Jagtar Singh from the Tata Football Academy.
