Jamshedpur hosted this seasons Under-20 I-League tournament, which was played from March 5 to 24 with the Pune FC Juniors retaining their title won last year.

This season 15 club youth teams and academies took part with matches played at the JRD Tata Sports Complex and the Gopal Maidan in Jamshedpur.

Pune FC retain Under-20 I-League title!

The Under-20 team of Pune FC have retained their I-League Under-20 Tournament crown for the second consecutive year by remaining unbeaten in the final round of the competition in Jamshedpur.

Pune FC held their heads high throughout the final phase finishing with 13 points from five matches, winning four of their matches and drawing one.

In the final match Pune FC won 3-0 against East Bengal Club today to ensure that there was no last day drama with the Tata Football Academy finishing second while the Sesa Football Academy became third.

Retaining the title once more showed the good youth development work that Pune FC is doing under Head of Youth Development Ranjan Chowdhury.

Salgaocar FC Junior squad for Under-20 I-League

Goans Salgaocar FC Under-20 squad has arrived in Jamshedpur ahead of their opening Under-20 I-League against Pune FC tomorrow.

The Under-20 boys of Dempo SC are looking forward to their Under-20 I-League campaign, which gets underway next week in Jamshedpur. The Dempo U-20 squad look fit and raring to go in this video put online by their club with coach Gavin Araujo also speaking about his team.

Churchill Brothers to hold open Under-20 Trials on Saturday

Goan I-League side Churchill Brothers Sports Club will be holding open trials for their Under-20 youth team on Saturday, February 16 from 3.30 pm onwards at the Cansaulim Sports Complex in Cansaulim.

Boys born on January 1, 1993 or after are allowed to participate in the open trials for the clubs Under-20 team which will participate in the Under-20 I-League and invitational tournaments.

On Saturday afternoon please report at the venu with their birth certificates and own playing kit.

Jamshedpur to host Under-20 I-League

The All India Football Federation has allotted Jamshedpur the right to host this seasons Under-20 I-League tournament, which is set to kick-off from March 6.

The officials from the Jharkhand Football Association and the Tata Steel Sports department met on Monday to discuss organisational matters for the national level youth tournament.

Earlier in the season in September 2012, Jamshedpur had been co-hosts of the Federation Cup, but monsoonal rains caused major organisational problems.

Though not confirmed, but this seasons Under-20 I-League could be a 16 team affair with the Pune FC Juniors the defending champions of the Under-20 I-League which is set to be played at the JRD Tata Sports Complex and the Gopal Maidan.

The Final Round of the Under-20 I-League was played from May 6 to 19 in Kalyani, West Bengal with Pune FC winning their first-ever title with an unbeaten run throughout the tournament, nine wins-in-a-row; while Mumbai FC finished runners-up.

The six participation teams had qualified from the preliminary phase ( Under-20 I-League: Six Teams qualify for Final Round! ), which was played across three different venues – Kalyani, Mumbai and Goa. Under-20 I-League: Pune FC champions!

The Under-20 team of Pune FC have won the Under-20 I-League title with a 2-0 win against Shillong Lajong FC, their fourth win-in-a-row in the Final Round at the Kalyani Stadium, West Bengal yesterday. It is the first national level title for any of the Pune FC teams, who are serious about youth development as part of the work at the club.

After three wins against Churchill Brothers SC (3-0), Dempo SC (3-1) and Mumbai FC (4-0); Pune FC knew going into the match against Shillong Lajong FC that three points would give them the title with a match against Prayag United SC to go.

Pune FC decided the match in the first session itself with goals from captain Suji Kumar in the 21st minute and William Lalnenfula in the 41st minute. That was enough for Pune FC to seal the match and tournament title then closest rivals Mumbai FC are on nine points and even with a win and Pune FC losing they would lose the head-to-head count.

With a match to go Pune FC have won all their eight Under-20 I-League matches so far. Earlier in the qualifiers in Navi Mumbai, Pune FC had beaten HAL, Bangalore (5-1), Air India (4-1), Chirag United Kerala (2-0) and Mumbai FC (3-2).

The Under-20 I-League kicked-off on April 16 and ended yesterday with the preliminary phase played across three different venues – Kalyani, Mumbai and Goa. The top two teams from the three groups qualify for the final phase which is slated to be held later in Kalyani, West Bengal.
