PIFA Summer Football Camps in Mumbai

Mumbai's Premier India Football Academy (PIFA) will organise two separate Summer Camps at Juhu and Opera House in Mumbai in the coming weeks for boys and girls.

The first camp will be held from April 29 to May 3, while the second will be held from May 6 to 10 with boys and girls in the age group of 6 to 18 years allowed to take part with interested children allowed to participate in both training camps of five days duration each.

The camps will be held at Juhu and Opera House in Mumbai with the 5 day course costing INR 2,500 and the 10 day course costing INR 4,800. Participants will receive a certificate for having taken part.

Mumbai's PIFA to hold trials for U-19 & U-17 Men's teams & their Women's squad!

The Premier India Football Academy (PIFA) from Mumbai will hold open trials for their Men's Under-19 and Under-17 teams as well as their women's squad in the coming days and weeks.

PIFA's Under-19 team plays in the Mumbai District FA's first division, the Under-17 boys play in the MDFA 2nd Division, while the PIFA Women's team play in the MDFA/BFRA Women's League.

Mumbai's PIFA name squad for 2nd Division I-League

The Premier India Football Academy (PIFA) from Mumbai have announced their list of 28 players including three foreigners for the 2nd Division I-League. They have been registered as PIFA Sports FC with the AIFF for the tournament.

PIFA Sport FC ,earlier known as PIFA Colaba FC, will be playing for the third time in the 2nd Division I-League. The team will be coached by UEFA A licensed coach Faruk Ahmed and the team has signed three African players in Vincent Asuquo (Nigeria), James Phiri (Zimbabwe) and Emmanuel Okoye (Nigeria).

Also in the team is Varin Mehta, who has had a stint with Belgium side Royal Antwerp and is now back in India.

PIFA Sports FC have been drawn in Group B, to be played in Indore, alongside Aizwal FC (Mizoram), Aryan Club (Kolkata), Bhowanipore Club (Kolkata), Green Valley SC (Guwahati), Josco FC (Kerala), Mohammedan Sporting Club (Kolkata), Royal Wahingdoh FC (Shillong) and Simla Youngs FC (Delhi).

MDFA scraps Mumbai Elite Division due to lack of teams

After months of not knowing if the Mumbai Elite Division would be played or not, the Mumbai District Football Association has decided to scrap the 2012/13 edition of the city league due to lack of teams able to participate as 10 of the 14 teams have other commitments at the time of the league.

Only last week the MDFA had announced that the league would be played from February 25 to March 16 with only seven teams as due to fixture problems there would be no participation from clubs playing in the I-League (ONGC, Air India, Mumbai FC) and 2nd Division I-League (Dodsal FC, Kenkre FC, PIFA) besides the Indian Navy.

This meant the Elite Division would have been played with Western Railway, Central Railway, Mumbai Customs, Union Bank of India, Rashtriya Chemicals & Fertilizers besides promoted outfits Maharashtra State Police and Companeroes SC taking part.

But then the Railway sides - Western Railway and Central Railway - pulled out due to their Inter-Railway Tournament commitments while Mumbai Customs also have an Inter-Customs tournament to play.

As per the MDFA an earlier date was not possible due to the renovation work at the Cooperage ground and non-availability of alternative venues. This left the Mumbai District Football Association with only four teams to play and therefore the MDFA decided to scrap the top tier division of Mumbai football, a sad first for football in Mumbai.

PFL/JFL: Saturdays in Mumbai will never be the same

The Premier Football League (PFL) and the Junior Football League (JFL) concluded yesterday at the JBCN International School artificial turf football pitch at Parel in Mumbai. The league was played over 12 Saturdays since November 17, 2012.

214 boys between the ages 5 to 17 years participated in six age categories and 42 girls played in the two age groups. There were one to two of talented underprivileged boys from the PIFA Foundation youth development program in most of the teams. Most of the teams were formed randomly by mixing the players.

The participants were offered free training during this period by the league training partners - Premier India Football Academy (PIFA) at any of their 14 centres in Mumbai.

This League is the second edition, the previous edition being played in 2011/12 at the Western Railway ground in Parel.

Director Anjali Shah had this to say about the league, "The league was designed for young children to show case and improve their skills, to stay fit and healthy, to socialize and play with new team mates and finally, for parents to spend some quality time with their young ones."

The league had parents as coaches and managers. The league was played 4v4 for age 5-6 years and increased depending on their age category upto 7v7 for 12years and above. This was primarily to let the players get more touches of the ball and enable them to develop their skills.

The league's technical Director Nirvan (UEFA/AFC B lic. coach) was excited by what he saw, "Simply amazed to see the improvement in the ability of these young boys and girls over the 12 match days. They are now passing and creating opportunities. They are all enjoying their game, it is not about winning, it is about challenging themselves to get better. India's got talent, our next step as India coaches and parents is to nurture the talented cubs into world class players."

At the conclusion of this edition of the league Mrs Sunita Narohna (parent) exclaimed "Saturdays will not be the same any more!"

Mumbai Elite Division: No I-League or Division 2 clubs to participate

After months of not knowing if the Mumbai Elite Division for the 2012/13 season would be played or not, the Mumbai District Football Association has announced that the league would be played from February 25 to March 16, but due to fixture problems there would be no participation from clubs playing in the I-League and 2nd Division I-League besides the Indian Navy.

This means that defending champions ONGC besides former champions Air India and Mumbai FC plus 2nd Division sides Kenkre FC, PIFA and newly formed Dodsal FC would not be part of the league due to their national commitments, while Indian Navy have also opted out as they have to play in the Inter-Services tournament.

This means the Mumbai District Football Association organised Mumbai Elite Division would kick-off at the Western Railway ground, Mahalaxmi, from Monday, February 25 with only seven teams participating.

The teams, who will vie for the top honours this year, are Western Railway, Central Railway, Mumbai Customs, Union Bank of India, Rashtriya Chemicals & Fertilizers besides promoted outfits Maharashtra State Police and Companeroes SC.

The MDFA has also decided to complete league just within a month and the fixtures have been drawn up with the concluding league matches scheduled to be played on Friday, March 16.

The opening match would be between Central Railway and Union Bank of India at 1.30pm on February 25, followed by the second match between Western Railway and Mumbai Customs that day itself.

Mumbai's Nadkarni Cup to be played next month

The 106th edition of the 'RCF' Nadkarni Cup Football Tournament 2012/13 will be held from October 3 onwards at the RCF Ground in Chembur, Mumbai. 12 of Mumbai's top clubs including I-League side ONGC, newly founded Dodsal FC and I-League Division 2 sides Kenkre FC and PIFA-Colaba FC will be seen in action.

The tournament is a season opener for the top tier clubs of the Mumbai Football League organised by the Mumbai District Football Association. Defending champions are Mumbai FC who last year had beaten PIFA-Colaba FC 4-0 in the final.

So far the pre-quarterfinal and quarterfinal matches have been finalised with the dates of the semifinals and final to be fixed later.

MUPC Under-15 India-leg: Chandigarh Football Academy champions!

The Chandigarh Football Academy are the champions of the seventh edition of the Indian-leg of the Manchester United Premier Cup Under-15 tournament. In the final they beat PIFA from Mumbai 2-0 in extra-time through two goals from Samuel Lalmuanpuia at the Sesa Football Academy ground in Sirsaim, Goa.

Chandigarh Football Academy will now go on to represent India in the Southeast Asia qualifiers in Indonesia later this month to face teams from the host nation, Malaysia, Thailand and Singapore with the winner of that tournament getting a place at the global finals in Manchester this summer.

This year the Indian-leg of the Manchester United Premier Cup Under-15 tournament was held under a new format. There were state qualifiers and then a North-East-Northeast Zone qualifiers played in Jamshedpur while the South-West teams played their championship in Goa. While Chandigarh Football Academy won the Jamshedpur-leg, it was PIFA who won in Goa.

"Over the years, Nike MUPC is serving as a platform to identify young talent. This is at the core of our brand to promote the sport," Nike marketing director Avinash Pant told the media.

Former India captain Baichung Bhutia, who was present at the finals, said the tournament will continue to be a platform for young footballers to showcase their talent and also for clubs to scout young talent.

7th Abhijit Kadam Memorial Football Cup: PIFA champions

The seventh edition of the Abhijit Kadam Memorial Football Cup was held from March 3 to 11 at the floodlit Bharati Vidyapeeth Education Complex Ground in Dhankawdi, Pune. In the final Mumbai-based I-League Division 2 outfit PIFA-Colaba FC won 1-0 against a second string Prayag United SC, who gave exposure to their fringe and under-19 players.

Nagesh Swamy scored the winner for PIFA in the final. Along with the trophy PIFA received a cash prize of Rs 300,000 (3 lakhs), while runners-up Prayag United SC received Rs 200,000 (2 lakhs).

PIFA's Vincent Bassey received the best Player of the Tournament award, while Raju Chakraborty (Prayag United SC) was adjudged as the Best Goalkeeper of the Tournament and Nagesh Swamy was named as the 'Man of the Match' of the final.

7th Abhijit Kadam Memorial Football Cup starts tomorrow

The seventh edition of the Abhijit Kadam Memorial Football Cup is set to kick-off tomorrow in Pune with six teams taking part in this years edition of the tournament with the final slated for March 11. The tournament will be played at the floodlit Bharati Vidyapeeth Education Complex Ground in Dhankawdi.

For the first-time the organisers have been able to attract three I-League sides to play in the tournament - in Prayag United SC, Air India and Mumbai FC; I-League Division 2 side Sesa Football Academy and the finalists of the Abhijit Kadam Memorial Football Shield - Amanora Deccan XI (winners) and PIFA-Colaba FC (runners-up). The Shield is the local Maharashtra qualifying tournament for the Cup proper.

Speaking at the launch press conference a few days ago Managing Trustee of the AKMF Vishwajeet Kadam said, "The tournament provides an opportunity of the best two club teams in the state that emerges from the AKMF Shield to pit their skills against teams they would rarely play against."

In Group A Prayag United SC will face Air India and Amanora Deccan XI; while in Group B former champions Mumbai FC take on Sesa Football Academy and PIFA-Colaba FC. Last year Sporting Clube de Goa had won the trophy in the final against Shillong Lajong FC.

The Abhijit Kadam Memorial Football Cup is being conducted by the Abhijit Kadam Memorial Foundation under the aegis of the Pune District Football Association and the Western India Football Association with the tournament recognized by the All India Football Federation.

This year the prize money has been doubled. The champions would take home Rs 300,000 (3 lakhs), while the runners-up would get Rs 200,000 (2 lakh). There would be awards, certificates and a cash incentive of Rs 15,000 for the Best Player of the Tournament as well as the Best Goalkeeper of the Tournament.

PIFA children train at Liverpool Academy

The Premier India Football Academy from Mumbai organized their 24th international football camp to Europe this year. The PIFA Champions Tour 2011 was held at the Liverpool FC's - 'The Academy' at Kirkby in North Liverpool from June 1-9. Indian children got first-hand experience training under Liverpool academy youth coach Gary Judge, who holds a UEFA licence.

This is the first-ever Liverpool camp held for international children at 'The Academy'. The camp focused on technical training to help develop TABS - Technique, Attitude, Balance and Speed. Gary Lewis, Liverpool U-15 coach and UEFA 'A' licence coach did a special session for the campers to develop awareness on the pitch. Coach Darren did a session on SAQ and the use of specialized equipments such as parachutes and resistant chords to help build power, speed and balance.

The training was conducted every day on the astro-turf pitches both indoor as well as outdoor. The campers trained in Liverpool kit, got a tour of Anfield Stadium and museum. They were treated to lunch at 'The Boot Room' inside Anfield. The following day they were taken to Anfield for an interactive session at Reducate and a chance to pose with the UEFA Champions League Trophy won for the fifth time by Liverpool.

The children had a surprise visit by Liverpool Academy graduate and now Liverpool player John Flanigan. The children had lots of questions for him and learnt a lot about being a professional player with regard to his discipline, training and diet.

On penultimate day the children visited Old Trafford and were later invited to lunch at Jamie Carragher's restaurant in Liverpool – 'Café Sports England'. Later in the evening the boys played a friendly match against the local side form Runcorn.

Neel Shah was the final winner of skills test that were conducted through the camp. He won with a score of 730 points. The runners up was Yudister Jaisingh. Both the boys were presented with a trophy. All participants got a certificate from Liverpool signed by Ian Rush and a LFC gift set.

"This was the by far the best camp that we have attended, in terms of facility, training and enjoyment, we look forward to returning very soon," said PIFA Director Nirvan Shah.

The proceeds of these camps are utilised to develop the organisations I-League 2nd division team PIFA Colaba FC, a PIFA community football project undertaken by NGO - PIFA Foundation for benefit of sports in Colaba, Mumbai. The team in its fifth year of existence has reached the I-League 2nd division and finished third in the Mumbai Elite League.

I-League 2 - Group C: Royal Wahingdoh & Vasco move on

Surprise group toppers Royal Wahingdoh FC and second placed Vasco SC have moved on from the preliminary Group C in the 2nd Division I-League to the final round of the league to be played in Shillong.

The Carlton Chapman coached Royal Wahingdoh from Shillong maintained an all win record even beating the groups favourites Vasco SC and Techno Aryan Club, while Vasco went through as they won their crucial penultimate encounter against Aryan Club with all these three clubs beating the other participating sides in the group.

There were five matches in which one side scored five goals or more and these results show that overall this was the group with the biggest differences between the seven participating teams.

The local Group C organisers in Tamil Nadu's Madurai have come in for a lot of praise from the participating clubs. The matches at the Race Course Stadium where held at 17.00 and 19.00 IST with the second half of the first game and the whole second match under floodlights. Which reduced the burden of heat on the players and all were very appreciate of this fact.

PIFA tie up with Liverpool International Football Academy

Mumbai's Premier India Football Academy have a new tie-up with Liverpool International Football Academy Soccer Schools. This association will help PIFA organise camps at the Liverpool facilities and an opportunity to bring coaches from Liverpool to India. The association will also help PIFA to adopt the latest training methods employed by Liverpool.

Some of the graduates from the Liverpool Football Academy are Jamie Carragher, Michael Owen and Steven Gerrard.

PIFA will be organising a camp to Liverpool from June 1 to 9. The participants will be train in Liverpool kit and will be coached by UEFA / FA licensed Liverpool coaches at The Academy facilities at Kirkby in Liverpool. The campers will also visit Liverpool's Anfield Stadium besides getting to know what nutrition and fitness program the Reds have that keeps them going as well as psychology sessions.

This will be PIFA's 24th camp to Europe since 2003. The academy has an AIFF I-League 2nd division team - PIFA Colaba FC as well as other teams playing in the Mumbai Football League. Talented campers get selected to play for these teams.

PIFA Colaba FC to play 2nd Division I-League

PIFA Colaba FC's senior team is getting ready to kick off its first season in the 2nd Division I-League later this week. PIFA Colaba FC has been placed in Group C which will play in Madurai to face the likes of Techno Aryan Club (West Bengal), Vasco SC (Goa), Chandni FC (Kerala), Royal Wahingdoh SC (Meghalaya), Eagles FC (Kerala), and BEML (EM) (Karnataka).

The PIFA management has decided to send a 21 player squad to Madurai with PIFA director Nirvan Shah as the teams coach and Sudhakar Rane as manager. But for PIFA their group is a tough one with Aryan Club and Vasco the favourites to go through.

PIFA Colaba FC was formed in the year 2006. It started in the MDFA Senior Division 2006/07. The team achieved promotion in their first year from 'Senior' to 'Super' in 2007/08. In the following season 2008/09 the team was promoted to the 'Elite' Division, which made it two consecutive promotions in 2 years. The team has successfully plied its trade in the 'Elite' Division ever since. In the 2010/11 season PIFA Colaba FC finished in the top 3 of the Maharashtra League, which gave them the rights for a place in the 2nd Division I-League.

PIFA Colaba FC also has an Under-19 team playing in the 'MDFA' 1st Division. The Under-19 team is currently sitting on top of the table in their group, while their Under-17 team enjoyed a fruitful season in the 'MDFA' 2nd Division as they remained unbeaten in their group.

5. Sports injury prevention & rehabilitation - Team from Kokilaben Hospital


Besides this, various sports stalls will showcase and promote their products with exhibits ranging from Sport Nutrition, Merchandise, Apparel, Equipment and Health. A dedicated Food Court will also feature with independent seating. We are inviting noted members from the football community along key decision makers in Sports administration. Bollywood stars associated with sports will add to the glamour of this event. The event plans to reach out to PIFA Academy members and their families plus additional non-member invites as well .We are expecting a total of 10,000 guests attending throughout the day.

Indian football is still a long way from being Asian leaders. Getting into the Asian cup 2011 was a gigantic step in the right direction. Bob Houghton has done a fantastic job for India in the last few years and it is for us to supply him with players of top calibre. He cannot create them as creation begins at a very young age. Spain won the World Cup thanks mainly to the Barcelona Youth Academy system, where children are trained by professionals from a very young age. India now needs to create a system to develop talent.

Students from the academy have represented Maharashtra and India. In fact, all children that represented India from Maharashtra in the last two years have been from the academy.
We would like to felicitate these young achievers as well as the team at the FOOTBALL CARNIVAL.
